More about Strategic Process Management...

Strategic Process Management (SPM)
SPM is a life-cycle process management methodology encompassing the introduction, management, improvement and decommissioning of products, processes, physical space, equipment, supplies and techniques (methods) in a strategic way. Every organization is a unique matrix of people, technologies, physical space and process. DLG recognizes this and customizes its solutions to the exact needs of each organization.

Many of these are clinical in nature but support processes and people are the key to making things run smoothly. By examining all of them together we ensure that only the best solutions are implemented. For example, the personnel involved with surgical procedures are trying to improve throughput. To do this requires statistical equilibrium and adherence to a certain way of doing things. Standardization and compliance, however, are the opposite of innovation and virtually preclude testing let alone embracing new products and methods.

Day to day process is where all transactions are done and where the source of all information that might later be examined lies. People transact in a number of ways, and it is here that certain controls can be implemented to a) keep the information pure and clean and b) facilitate easier training and learning and c) offer opportunities for changing processes midstream. This is true because a large part of the process improvement process involves trying to understand the current processes and then asking how waste can be removed and beneficial outcomes improved. By starting with a well-described process and measurable outcomes, an organization need only develop a culture of improvement to "turn the crank".
